The ranch controls the approach to much of the eastern side of the La Sals, and offers virtually private access to the lovely timberline basins below Mount Tomasaki and Manns Peak. Wild turkeys, mountain lions, black bears, coyotes and bobcats also roam here. Rare Colorado River Cutthroat trout have been documented in nearby Roc Creek and may survive in the waters on the ranch as well, as Deep Creek is a tributary of Roc Creek. Some of the most astounding scenery in the United States lies within an hour's drive of La Sal Ranch, ranging from the windswept peaks above treeline to echoing redrock canyons. Thus, diverse recreational opportunities abound. Mountain biking, horseback riding, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and cross country skiing are all possibilities both on the ranch and nearby public lands. Moab, a bustling small city and the recreation center of southeastern Utah, is only a little more that an hour's drive. Canyonlands Airport serves Moab, and renowned Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are nearby. To the northeast lie the Colorado communities of Gateway (30 miles) and Grand Junction (90 miles).
