Metro Atlanta Region, GA
The Metro Atlanta region of Georgia is by far the most populated region in the state and the following nine counties: Fulton County, DeKalb County, Gwinnett County, Cobb County, Clayton County, Coweta County, Douglas County, Fayette County, and Henry County. The area sprawls across the low foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the north and the Piedmont to the south.

The highest point in the immediate area is Kennesaw Mountain followed by Stone Mountain and Sweat Mountain. One great spot is Sope Creek where they don't just have hiking trails; they also have the Sope Creek Ruins to explore.

Cochran Mill Nature Center and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area offer trails for hiking and the latter also has an opportunity for river rafting. The nearby Chattahoochee Bend State Park offers boating, camping sites, and also has 6 miles of hiking trails at varying difficulties.

If you prefer scenic views then Stone Mountain Park is better suited. The park is vast with various activities, lodging, and a cable car ride to visit a historic carved peak. In contrast if you prefer water sports, be sure to visit Lake Lanier where they offer boating, bass fishing, beaches, and all water sports under the sun.
