Ninole, Hawaii County, HI Land For Sale - 1.03 Acres
Oceanfront overlooking the Pacific Ocean
Formerly known for its sugar cane, Ninole has become rather gentrified since the demise of the Hamakua Sugar Company and the sugar cane industry as a whole. When the sugar companies sold their lands, acreage was often divided into 3-, 5-, 10-, and 20-acre lots, depending on the area. As a result, there are a variety of small farms tucked along the coastline. Some are “gentleman estates” where... more homeowners garden as a hobby and some are thriving small businesses that grow produce including ginger, tea, sweet potato, lettuce and other vegetables for the resorts on the other side of the island. Several area farms offer agricultural tours and culinary events and there’s a local farmers market every Tuesday afternoon in Wailea and Sunday in nearby Laupahoehoe.
Ninole is popular with homebuyers because of its small town feel. Indeed, the unincorpoated town is home to 210 residents and one of the smallest – and cutest – post offices in the country. According to census data, there are 91 households in Ninole and the median age is 52.
Homebuyers are also drawn to the area because of the beautiful waterfalls that can be seen across the countryside. In fact, it’s not unusual to buy a property that includes its own private waterfall!
Dining opportunities include the recently opened The Papaaloa Store and Cafe. Believe it or not, MinitStop (located along Highway 19 in Laupahoehoe) has the best fried chicken around. It’s perfect for a picnic at one of the region’s many beach parks. Annual taxes are estimated as per the County Tax office.
