Midlands Region, SC
Based on recent LandWatch data, the Midlands region of South Carolina ranks third in the state for the total acreage currently for sale. Recent internal data records $2.4 billion of land for sale in Midlands region . With thousands of properties and rural land for sale in the area, this represents some 80,659 acres of land for sale. The average price of land and ranches for sale here is $266,589.

As indicated by the region's name, the Midlands are roughly in the area of the middle of South Carolina. The city of Columbia is at the center, the area's largest city and the state capital. Sumter is also a large city in the Midlands. The region is halfway between the Upstate and Low Country areas. The region is home to dozens of colleges and universities, including South Carolina State University and University of South Carolina. There are many historical sites in the region, including the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia. The town of Camden features reenactments of the American Revolutionary War and is a popular destination for history buffs. The Saluda River and Lake Murray are locations offering outdoor recreation. There are also prestigious golf courses which overlook beautiful rolling hills.

Aiken County is the fourth largest county in South Carolina by land. Aiken is also the name of the largest city in the county, which is also the county seat. Historically the expansion of railroads in the 1870's caused population growth in this area, as it is also named for William Aiken, president of the South Carolina Railroad and Canal Company. The county is also the center of South Carolina's "Thoroughbred Country," for the areas stables and racehorse training, as well as a spring "Triple Crown" which includes flat racing, steeplechases and polo.

York County's largest city is Rock Hill, and the city of York is its county seat. It is adjacent to the North Carolina border. It has natural boundaries on the west and east through the Broad River and Catawba River. The county is heavily wooded in many rural areas, but it is part of the greater Charlotte metropolitan region including Rock Hill and smaller cities of Tega Cay and York. There are several mountain summits in the county, including Henry's Knob and Joe's Mountain, and protected areas, such as Kings Mountain State Park.

Lexington County's name commemorates the Battle of Lexington in the American Revolutionary War. The largest body of water in the county is Lake Murray, and there are also several rivers: Broad River, Saluda River and Congaree River. Part of the capital city of Columbia is in this county, part of Cayce, another large city, as well as West Columbia.

Richland County is the second most populated in South Carolina. The state capital of Columbia is the largest city, and it is the county seat. Part of the city of Cayce is also in Richland County. The county contains several bodies of water: Lake Murray, Broad River, Congaree River, Little River, Saluda River and Wateree River. Congaree National Park is a protected area. Riverfront Park and Historic Canal is also a popular attraction.
