Big Bend Country Region, TX
The Big Bend Country is well known to tourists for its many national parks, winding rivers, wide-open spaces with rugged plateaus, and the numerous desert mountains. It is the western most region in Texas and spans from Del Rio in Val Verde County to El Paso in El Paso County. If you travel to Del Rio you will find great camping and fishing spots in the Amistad National Recreation Area and Amistad Reservoir. There you can also spend time swimming, boating, and bird watching. Alternatively, you can go to Comstalk to learn about the early canyon dwellers at the Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site. The historical site has Native American pictographs and a variety of activities including hiking, biking, and camping. El Paso is a well-traveled city on the Texas border between New Mexico and Mexico. There you will find the Franklin Mountains State Park and the popular Hideaway Lake. Franklin Mountains State Park offers hiking trails, camping, and the Wyler Aerial Tramway.

There are five spectacular river canyons in Big Bend Country that offer a great opportunity for kayaking or rafting the Rio Grande River. The Rio Grande forms the border between Mexico and the United States giving the state its unique shape and the regions its name. The Big Ben National Park is situated on the border and covers 801,000 acres of west Texas. The natural environment in the park merges both desert and mountains which produces a great diversity of plants and animals.
