Medicine Bow-
With a population of 284, and an area of 3.46 square miles, the community was named after the Medicine Bow River. Located along a short section off HWY 30. It is home to a historic hotel, the Virginian. The hotel is thought to be named for the famous novel written in Medicine Bow, The Virginian by Owen Wister. It provided a place for cowboys and railroad workers to stay in town, and it became a headquarters for business deals as well. The hotel is significant because it is massive compared to the town. Upon completion, it was the biggest hotel between Denver and Salt Lake City. (1911) Located less than an hour from the famous Saratoga Hot Springs and Brewery where they are known for fishing, tubing, and raft trips.
Hunting-
Medicine Bow is a prime habitat for antelope and prairie dogs. The spring brings out the sport and distance shooters. August brings big game bow shooters for all big game species including elk. There are open, state, and federal lands available to hunt on.
