Tall grass thrives as this property has been carefully managed to promote the health of the resident elk herd. Deep steep canyons surround the ranch on the north and south allowing wildlife to feel safe and travel freely while keeping human traffic to a minimum. The ridge down the center of Lake Ridge is a mecca for wildlife. It is not uncommon to see the elk herd number over 2000 head as they head back to the timber at daylight. The historic name Lake Ridge comes from the abundance of natural springs flowing on the west facing slopes. This natural oasis at such a high elevation is a rare feature.
