Although not 100% verified, there is some interesting history of the property when it was part of Civil War Captain Osmond Barber's plantation: Osmond reportedly helped escort Confederate President Jefferson Davis flee Richmond after General Lee's surrender. It was rumored that Captain Barber may have absconded with a portion of the Confederate treasury as the group traveled through Chester County. At a time when most plantation owners were lucky to even keep what land they had, Captain Barber increased his holdings from 500 acres to over 15,000. Who knows what might be buried on that property!
