PROPERTY LOCATION: 136 Tuleyries Ln, Boyce, VA 22620 (Clarke County)
Just an hour west of our nations capital, in Virginias scenic Shenandoah Valley, lies a most remarkable country estate, known at The Tuleyries, that has captivated visitors since the early 19th century.
THE MANSION
The Tuleyries is a grand Antebellum mansion built in 1833 and stands as one of the finest late Federal Mansions in Virginia. It offers over 10,000 sq.ft. of grand living space including an impressive banquet room, 5 bedrooms, 6.5 baths, and 10 magnificent fireplaces. In the early 1990s, it underwent a thorough $3M+ restoration by John Milner Architects, Inc that included reinforcing the impressive structure with steel beams. Since its construction in 1833 by Col. Joseph Tuley, Jr and deemed Tuleyries alluding to the French royal palace, it has been described as a most splendid and expensive mansion and a magn...

In the early 1990s, it underwent a thorough $3M+ restoration by John Milner Architects, Inc that included reinforcing the impressive structure with steel beams. Since its construction in 1833 by Col. Joseph Tuley, Jr and deemed Tuleyries alluding to the French royal palace, it has been described as a most splendid and expensive mansion and a magnificent estate one of the finest and most valuable in the State. Architectural descriptions abound but I believe Samuel Kercheval in his "History of the Valley of Virginia" summed it up best:
"To give a detailed account of this fine building would be tedious, and perhaps tiresome to the reader. It is sufficient to say that this edifice is sixty feet by forty, of the best of brick finished from the base to the attick [sic] in the most elegant style of modern architecture, and is covered with tin. A spacious portico, supported underneath with massive marble slabs, with pillars of solid pine, twenty-eight feet high, supporting the roof forming a most beautiful colonnade, based on square marble blocks; the porch floor laid with white marble, and marble steps; a spacious entry; a spiral stair-way running from the passage to the summit, on which there is a handsome cupola with a large brass ball erected; the fire places decorated with the finest marble mantles; his doors and windows of the best mahogany;
As a testimony to its historical significance and beauty, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Virginia Landmarks Register, and is featured in The Garden Club of Virginias 2023 Historic Garden Week (April 15-22).
THE FACILITIES
(2) tenant homes (6987 John Mosby Hwy & 1427 Westfield Farm Ln) both currently leased plus several beautiful, historic farm buildings (many brick) including the gate house, an old forge, smokehouse, ice house, carriage house, stable, and barns. Formal gardens and beautiful fenced and cross fenced pastures surround the home plus an impressive network of stacked stone walls.
THE LAND
The Tuleyries stands out as an exceptional property amidst a landscape of renowned Shenandoah Valley farms and equestrian properties. A beautiful 168 acre estate nestled in the valley of the Shenandoah (Clarke County, Virginia Tax Map # 29-A-35) with nearly half a mile (2545) of frontage on John Mosby Hwy / US-50. It is fenced and cross-fenced for horses. 700 acres of this beautiful property was donated to the University of Virginia in the early 20th century and is now the State Arboretum of Virginia.
