Lucky Hit is one of the oldest of the important houses in historic Clarke County. Built in 1791 by Richard Kidder Meade, it is located south of Route 50 in a beautiful area of the county, surrounded by large farms, and across from the 400-acre State Arboretum of Virginia. The views to the east and south are of mountains and rolling fields: to the west is the village of White Post, where a survey marker was placed by a young George Washington when he surveyed the area. The property includes two adjacent parcels, one of 30 acres (tax ID 28--A-39) with the house, and the other 54.3 acres (tax ID #28--A-39B), which has one dwelling unit right. The larger parcel is open and flat and would make a great location for a horse facility.
