The Northwest region of Colorado has different geographies that include mountain passes that cross over the Continental Divide to the sage covered mesas on the Western Slope.

Between these two types of geography are some of the best ski resorts in the world. Summit County is home to Arapahoe Basin which is known for its high elevation. Other area resorts include Breckenridge Ski Resort, Copper Mountain, Loveland Ski Area, and the largest resort is Keystone Resort. The cities of Breckenridge, Vail and Winter Park offer both winter and summer activities including, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and golfing.

Some of the state's favorite hot springs are found within the Northwest Region of Colorado. Within the Yampa Valley are several geothermal hot springs. Steamboat Springs offers both natural and manmade pools in addition to the towns of Hot Sulphur Springs and Glenwood Springs. Steamboat Springs, is also internationally known for the Steamboat Ski Resort.

More wonders congregate around the town of Grand Junction: The Grand Mesa, the world's highest flattop mountain, is to the east; Colorado National Monument, a gallery of desert-rock formations, is to the west; and the dramatic Book Cliffs descend right into town from the north. Warm days and cool nights define this agricultural area, which supplies the state with juicy peaches, fragrant melons and supple wine grapes. And, far to the north, where the land finally flattens back into plains, sits Dinosaur National Monument, a fossil-filled park that is like taking a step back into the Jurassic era.

The White River National Forest is also located within the Northwest Region of Colorado. The White River National Forest is the most visited in the nation encompassing 2.3 million acres of outdoor opportunities.
