This oversized property fronts Cavalry Trail and is less than 1.5 miles east of 2-lane paved Hwy 159 for incredible access. The views here from here of Ute Mountain, the nearby Mesa, and surrounding hills are amazing. The Mesa area where this lot is located consists of approximately 75 square miles and is home to about 150 wild horses roaming on private lands. These horses are the descendants of horses used by Spanish explorers (conquistadors), brought to America starting in the early 1500's. This great Wild Horse Mesa subdivision lot offers incredible views of mountains and the Mesa, excellent county-dirt road frontage, and plenty of wide-open spaces. The land rests in the beautiful San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado. Sanchez Reservoir is about a 25-minute drive around the Mesa to the east. Sanchez Stabilizing Reservoir is only about a 5-minute drive north of land. Both reservoirs offer excellent fishing, kayaking, and canoeing opportunities. You can also boat in Sanchez Reservoir. The majestic Rio Grande River is about at 20-minute drive to the west of this lot. Smith Reservoir and Mountain Home Reservoir offer more great outdoor recreation and are each about a 30-minute north of the land. We visited Costilla County in early June 2021 and were stunned by the unique beauty of this area of Colorado. Only about 10 minutes south of the oldest town in Colorado, San Luis, this land is also close to the Southern Colorado towns of Alamosa, Blanca, and Fort Garland. San Luis has a couple of restaurants, a dollar store, a small grocery/supplies store, and a gas station. It is also the county seat of Costilla County. Alamosa is the largest town about 55 minutes away with a population of about 9,800 people. It has a Walmart Supercenter, an Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply Co., various other retail stores, restaurants, hotels, a regional airport, and even a small university. Taos, New Mexico, with a population of about 6,000 people, is less than 1 hour to the south of the property on Hwy 159 and provides some great winter skiing, outdoor recreation opportunities, numerous businesses, and a thriving art culture. Colorado Springs and Denver are located only 2.5 and 3.5 hours to the north respectively.
