South Ranch is located in South Central Colorado's Huerfano County, just 4 miles west of Gardner Colorado and just 18 miles south of the small mountain town of Westcliffe, 38 miles North of Walsenburg Colorado and the I-25 corridor. Huerfano County, established in 1861, whose name comes from the Spanish Huerfano meaning "orphan", was named for the Huerfano Butte, a local landmark. The county seat is Walsenburg Colorado with a current population of 2,927 residents. Regional air travel is serviced by The jet-accessible Silver West Airport is located 15 miles north of the ranch and features a 7,000' X 55' paved runway at 8,300' elevation and offers private jet charter transportation.
