The L-J-K Ranch is part of Mail Trail Ranches in Edwards County, a well-known 11,000+/- acre game managed development designed for owners to get the most out of their hunting experience with the least amount of time, money, and effort spent in repairing, maintaining, and managing those assets and features which typically take time away from hunting and recreation. A well functioning Landowners' Association (LOA) manages and maintains a community (non-potable) water system comprised of several wells and all the interior access roads from US 377 to the entrance to each tract. The LOA also assists with the game management activities required for each landowner to maintain Ag Value property taxes through Wildlife Management of White-tail Deer. This includes the assistance of a consulting biologist for certain parts of the annual paperwork as well as recommended (not mandated) feeding and harvest guidelines. Mandated membership in the LOA includes annual dues of less than $4/acre, which takes care of your access roads, community water and game management consulting. Owners still have to do a few things, such as fill their own feeders, keep game feed and other wildlife management records (e.g, predators killed), report all game harvested, and help their grandkid harvest that first White-tail buck.

The lodge is incredible. Custom design and construction but without feeling extravagant. And very functional. The huge, covered back porch provides space for two or three additional entertainment areas - you could add lounge chairs on one end, a bar table & chairs in the middle, and a self-standing hammock on the other end. The clean, large bedrooms and bathrooms are what you would expect in a better quality hotel. Each bedroom has well coordinated, high quality furniture, including big screen TVs. The deer pens and deer blinds are no less well designed and constructed. The large deer feed pens have metal posts and metal frame gates. Feeders are of good quality and good condition. Deer blinds are large, comfortable, and concreted into the ground.
The topography is rugged, with two big canyons surrounded by high, wide ridges. There is interior road access from the lodge down into the canyons as well as perimeter gates along the main road. This makes it very convenient to drop off hunters at various hunting blinds and then return to the lodge by circling around on the main road without disturbing the hunting areas. The lodge sits on a high, north-facing ridge that offers a dramatic panorama of the distant horizon as well as a birds-eye view of the Christmas Tree Blind way down in the bottom of the main canyon.
