The Central region of Florida is a favorite destination of tourists of all ages. The most popular destinations are theme parks located in Orlando. With the exception of hill terrain in southern Lake County, Central Florida is mostly flatland with significant amounts of open space and over 1,500 lakes and ponds. There is a mixture of wetlands, Cypress, Oak, Maple and Pine forests, pastures and prairies.

The region is also full of state parks, lakes, rivers and wildlife refuges. Located in Osceola County is Lake Tohopelaliga, also known as Lake Toho. Lake Toho is bordered on the northern shore of Kissimmee, Florida and it is best known for its bass fishing and birdwatching.

Marion County, Florida is a major equestrian and thoroughbred center with over 1,200 horse farms and Ocala, Florida is well known as a "horse capital of the world." Nearby in Silver Springs, Florida has the Silver Springs State Park that is located on the Silver River.
