Grant County is a conservative county with a rich history of cattle raising, logging, and mining. It is a culture of many, many years ago and that is evidenced in the helpful neighbors and people who live in the small towns. Both John Day and Prairie City schools are excellent and sporting events are very well attended. Hunting for elk, deer, and turkey are excellent and there is .a lot of room on the National Forest. Some of the largest bulls in Oregon come out of Grant County. The weather is very moderate during the winter and you could not ask for a better place to winter livestock. Summers and winters will have a lot of sun. Rainfall will be in the 16" range depending on the year.
