Just up the valley lies Silver Jack Reservoir and thousands of acres of the Uncompahgre Wilderness in the Uncompahgre National Forest. Black Canyon National Park and the thriving small city of Montrose, with daily jet service, are but an hour away to the northwest. The Ranch ranges in elevation from 8500 to 9500 feet, and features extensive forests of aspen, spruce and fir. Open areas contain grasses and sagebrush, and are ideal locales for spotting elk and mule deer in the mornings and evenings. Nearly a mile of the Big Cimarron River flows through the ranch and is home to four species of trout. The action is fast and furious for 9- to 14-inch trout, and 100-fish days are possible. Abundant wild rainbows, brookies, browns and cutthroats eager to rise to a fly makes this an exciting stretch of river for novices and experts alike.
