Crested Bute is known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado so get that camera out and spend the day exploring all the flowers.
Big Game hunting around Crested Butte and Gunnison is some of the best in state. Trophy elk, mule deer, black bear, mountain lion, moose, big horn sheep or antelope; take your pick! With 80% of Gunnison County made up of public land, youll have lots of terrain to explore. The Game Management Units around the area include GMUs 53, 54, 55, 67, and 551.
There are lots of water activities in the Gunnison Valley. If you love to fish, weve got you covered. The area offers great river, stream and lake fishing, with state-record brown, rainbow, kokanee salmon and lake trout to be had. Blue Mesa Reservoir, about an hour drive, is Colorados largest body of water. There you can boat in the summer and ice fish in the winter. You can also white-water raft, kayak or tube down the Taylor, East or Gunnison Rivers. So much fun!
