In 1976, the B. B. Winborne house was moved from Main Street to its current location. Records indicate that there was a house on the original Main Street lot as early as 1818. J. T. Beaman purchased the house and lot in 1832. Albert Gamaliel Jones, a prominent builder from Warren County who was well known for his neo-classical structures built the current house for Mr. Beaman around 1840. The heart-pine floors, high ceilings, beautiful staircase and gracious rooms bring forth the character of homes built years ago. Many of the oversized windows still contain the original wavy glass. The front entrance features double doors flanked by a multi-paned transom and sidelights. The oversized foyer is typical of homes in this period. The home has 8 fireplaces, two of which have gas logs and there is a wood burning fireplace in the kitchen. There are four bedrooms and two full baths, a kitchen, laundry room, utility room, a dining room and a living room. The original kitchen was also restored and provides a bonus room. This room is currently being used as a hobby room, but it could easily be converted to a guest room, den or office. The rear porch has been enclosed to make a large sunroom. The established yard has many mature trees and shrubs and is located in a quiet and friendly family neighborhood. In the back yard, there is a workshop and the original pump house. There is a brick patio and sidewalks leading to the fish pond. The front porch will provide a lovely place to sit back and relax. The Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places and this home currently receives a discount on local property taxes. The historic town of Murfreesboro was established as an original Kings Landing on the banks of the Meherrin River. We embrace our rich history and have an active Historic Association, with volunteers coming together to provide tours in our Historic District, the annual Candlelight Christmas tour and Pork Fest. Recently revitalized, downtown Murfreesboro is home to many restaurants and shops. Murfreesboro is home to Chowan University, which offers many opportunities for cultural and sporting events. Numerous churches and civic organizations promise a warm welcome and offer many ways to become involved in our friendly community. We are just an hour from Tidewater, Virginia, about 45 minutes from Roanoke Rapids, home of the new Carolina Crossroads, and about 1 1/2 hours to the famous NC Outer Banks. The local rivers provide many opportunities for water sports and fishing. Give ELICIA REVELLE a call today at (252) 396-1244 (C), (252) 332-2867 (O
