LIFE AT THE Y.O. RANCH HISTORY In 1880, Captain Charles A. Schreiner, merchant, banker, philanthropist, pioneer rancher and Texas Ranger, purchased the Y.O. Ranch, brand and cattle from Taylor & Clemens with the profits from driving 300,000 longhorns from Texas to Dodge City. Throughout six generations, the ranch is notable for many historical firsts, including leasing land for hunting to diversify ranching income, founding the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association and establishing a registry for Texas Longhorns that brought the legendary breed back from the brink of extinction, and introducing exotic hoof stock that earned the ranch a reputation world-wide as Americas Original Game Ranch.

THE COMMUNITY -

HEADQUARTERS The Lodge is a true showplace with a 40-foot ceiling and thick walls of native cut stone with faded red planking from a Hill Country barn. There is a massive stone fireplace, turn-of-the- century wood bar and chandeliers fabricated from wagon wheels. A spiral staircase leads to a loft. The heart of the ranch, the Chuckwagon, is comprised of the restaurant, banquet room, offices, three half baths and a commercial kitchen. Available lodging for guests includes four old log and frame cabins with historical intricacies such as Kerr Countys first schoolhouse, an 1850s stagecoach stop and the first post office from Boerne, along with separate rooms and suites throughout the headquarters. The Amphitheater is one of the newer additions to the Y.O.s list of available entertaining venues. Able to accommodate many guests, the Amphitheater is the perfect location for concerts, conventions, and outdoor gatherings.

THE LAND & WILDLIFE - The Land Tracts varying in size from 100-176+ acres are a perfect manageable size, yet large enough to recreate and hunt on. The gently rolling terrain is usable and studded with countless live oaks and ample cover for wildlife. Many of the tracts offer incredible, unobstructed long-distance views with multiple build-site options. Electricity and paved road access will be available to each tract. Water well logs in the immediate area suggest that the water table is around 400-450 feet deep.

WILDLIFE With an established infrastructure, the Y.O. Ranch is a notable distinction for native and exotic hunting. The ranch features both quality and numbers of both native wildlife and exotic wildlife. An innovative animal conservation program has assured strength of these herds and made the legendary Y.O. Ranch a world leader in exotic game preservation.
