You can feel the history of this part of Mills County the minute you start down the county road toward this ranch. Located in western Mills County and where the community of Ratler was once a hub of activity. Ratler was known as Jones Valley prior to the U S Postal Service designating Willis Store as a postal station in the late 1800s. This ranch is located just north of the Renfro Dam which was first built in the late 1870s by Mary (Robins) and J. W. Jones using live oak logs and sandstone. This dam was needed to provide power to the Jones grist mill and cotton gin. In 1883 J. D. Wills purchased the Jones property, 50 years later Mr. Willis sold to B. F. Renfro who rebuilt the dam of sandstone. The flood of 1936 caused major destruction but the dam remained intact. The location of this property above Renfro dam is a great advantage because water backed up by the dam allows a more constant water level to this area of the river.
