A large kitchen and dining area provide fabulous views of the Mississippi River through large glass windows. An outside cooking area, enclosed storage with cleaning stations, and a walk in cooler are also on site. City water was run for 3 miles with a 2 pipe to the lodge site. The lodge is built on one of 7 man-made earthen mounds to elevate the structure for views and protection from flooding. The lodge DID NOT have water problems during the flood of 2011! The other mounds run along the river as well and provide great building sites for future lodges and structures.
The property has been placed in WRP over a period of years so there is a variety of habitat including original water control structure work designed and engineered by Ducks Unlimited in the mid 2000s. There are two wells on the property for water management and while the waterfowl hunting can be fantastic during periods of high water, Whistle Place is not dependent on River flooding for great waterfowl hunting. Flooded timber, oxbow lakes and flooded field perimeters provide excellent hunting opportunities. The property is surrounded by flooded rice, corn and soybean fields that hold thousands of waterfowl during the hunting season and Whistle Place is their go-to stop when not gathering in those flooded fields or when pushed out of those fields by other hunters. This area is a hot spot for ducks and geese.
Trophy whitetail roam the property. Intensive management has be done on Whistle Place and bucks topping 160 and 170 class have been harvested on the property. There are 13 large enclosed stands in designated food plots in addition to many other deer hunting options. Whistle Place is in Zone 17 and provides Arkansass longest deer hunting season.
The springtime provides great turkey hunting opportunities and turkeys are harvested annually. Fall dove hunting can be outstanding along the River and the fishing on Whistle Place can be outstanding as well!
