Wildlife is plentiful in this area. During my walk through the fields and the 26 acres of mostly young mixed pine and hardwood forest, I saw whitetail deer, turkey, porcupine, grouse and numerous songbirds. Most of the larger timber was harvested from the property ~20 years ago. Beaver activity was visible in the lowlands along the creek. The most common fish you might expect to catch in Sawyer Creek include: bullhead, trout, sunfish, rock bass and perch.
Just a mile or so to the east near ‘Rice’s Corners’ is the entrance to the Fort Drum Army Reservation with over 67,000 acres open to the public to enjoy. There are numerous easy access, designated angling and canoe and kayak launch sites. Hunting is also a popular activity on ‘Drum’ during the fall. All that is required to utilize this vast outdoor resource is a Recreational Pass which is available on-line and simple to use. What a wonderful asset to have almost out your back door!
This parcel is approximately 30 minutes from the ‘base’ at Fort Drum, and 45 minutes to Watertown. Less than an hour drive to the St. Lawrence River and Canada, the Adirondacks and Lake Ontario.
The Town of Fowler is a wonderful place to live, work and play. I know this because I spent the better part of my youth here; hunting, trapping, fishing, boating, and camping in the waters and along the shores of Sawyer and Matoon Creeks and the Oswegatchie River. Every season was a new adventure! Also, many of the roads in the Town of Fowler are open to both ATV’s and snowmobiles.
This is another prize property that may not last long. Drive by and check out the area… it might be worth a closer look!
