Originally constructed in 1911, the New Theatre is a landmark Beaux Arts–style building located on North 10th Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Reportedly inspired by New York City’s famed New Amsterdam Theatre, the structure showcases striking architectural detail, including terra cotta glazed tile, intricate brickwork, and ornate decorative cartouches across the façade.
The building began as a live performing arts venue before transitioning primarily into a movie theatre in the 1940s. Although it ceased operations in the 1970s, restoration efforts have occurred periodically since the 1990s, highlighting its enduring cultural and architectural value.
In recognition of its historical importance, the New Theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
