Russell Bottoms Oxbow
The Russell Bottoms Oxbow is an anomaly that doesn't come around often. Having the ability to farm, hunt, and fish really makes this place a jewel. Located just off the banks of the White River and bordering a WMA, it is along one of the most revered flyways in Arkansas. To the south of this property lies the famous White Oaks Duck Woods, Hurricane Lake WMA, Bald Knob NWR, and Cache River NWR to the east.
Of the 200 acres, roughly 115 of it is tillable. The ground is best suited for farming beans, however other crops have been farmed here. One option is to farm a portion and select some areas for food plots to develop an attractive habitat to boost what is already irresistible to the wildlife. While the White River bottoms are regarded as some of the best duck hunting, it is also known to produce some of the largest Whitetail bucks harvested in the state. With lots of open area to observe, setting up a stand to hunt for one of those bucks will certainly reap rewards. It goes without being said, and seen in the videos and pictures, that the ducks love this place. The oxbow lake offers year-round water, and the White River provides backwater to cover the farm when levels are right, providing the choice of hunting the lake or hunting the open fields and low areas. When you're tired of farming and hunting, launch the boat for some fishing and yo-yoing to fill up a cooler of crappie and other varieties of fish that are restocked by the river.
There is also the potential for WRE (formerly known as WRP), as this farm meets the requirements and is currently on the waiting list with an active application. When it was originally planned for the program and ranked well, it was only 160 acres, prior to the purchase of the southern 40 acre tract. Being a larger tract now may increase its appeal for the programs.
