The Salt Creek Ranch
470 +/- Acres
Wilbarger County, TX
The Salt Creek Ranch, located in Northwest Texas near the Red River valley, offers great hunting, as well as income potential from its farm and ranch land.
The ranch is mainly flat, with a large draw going through the middle of it. This draw carries the seasonal Salt Creek, which transverses through the property for over one mile. This creek gathers water from an estimated two mile radius around the ranch, and its flow varies from very strong during the rainy season to dry with a few puddles during drought periods. Two large water tanks have been dug off of the creek, which retain water for most of the year due to the large amount of runoff the creek channels. Other nearby streams include Wildcat Creek, which is four miles southwest of the ranch, and the Red River, which is four miles to the east.

The ranch's mixture of heavy mesquite brush, tall hackberry trees, thick grasses, and cultivated fields helps support of variety of native wildlife, including whitetail deer, turkey, quail, dove, and wild hog. This region of the county is known for growing large bucks. In early 2008, a 20 pt, non-typical whitetail was killed just five miles west of the ranch. This buck was donated to the city of Vernon's Chamber of Commerce, where the mount still hangs.
The ranch's two water tanks further support the wildlife population and would also make good fishing ponds if stocked. The native sunflowers growing around them attract lots of dove too.
In addition to the year-around hunting at the Salt Creek Ranch, the property can also double as a cattle operation. The native pasture has a good stand of grasses, and the cultivated fields can be sewn in wheat for rotational grazing. The two water tanks are located in different pastures, so the livestock have plenty to drink on both sides of the ranch. In the north pasture, there is an old hay barn and set of corrals as well. Fences are excellent to fair, with some cross fences.
