Area Description: Named for the Comanche Indians, the town of Comanche was established in 1856, and incorporated in 1858 along a military supply road to area forts known as the "Corn Trail". The area is rich with history and the "Old Cora Courthouse", one of the oldest standing wooden courthouses in Texas, still stands on the square near the present day courthouse. Today, nestled in the hills of Central Texas, Comanche is host to quality schools, a museum, art gallery, library, antique and gift shops, great restaurants, and annual events such as the Comanche Pow-Wow. This part of the Lone Star State is known for its quality deer and turkey hunting, and is also home to Lake Proctor, a 4,610 acre U. S. Army Corps of Engineers impoundment of the Leon River. Other area attractions include P.A.R. Country Club and local winery, Brennan Vineyards.

Terrain: A ridge extends through the center of the property from the West and provides approximately 270 degrees of scenic views across the ranch and beyond. There is approximately 90 feet of elevation change with good rolling terrain off the North, South, and East portions of the ridge. Soils consist of the Tarrant Association, Denton Silty Clay, Purves Clay, Purves-Bolar Association, Karnes Loam, Brackett-Bolar Complex, and Hensley Loam.

Wildlife & Hunting: The ranch provides good habitat for an abundance of whitetail deer, turkey, dove, feral hogs, and varmints. A good mix of heavy to moderate tree cover, forbs, and browse help attract and hold wildlife on the ranch. Live oaks may further supplement the wildlife with acorns. Two fields, 10+/- and 28+/- acres respectively, provide areas suitable for establishing seasonal wildlife food plots for deer and dove.
