Piceance Creek Ranch
Originally established as a Cattle Ranch in 1884, Piceance Creek Ranch is a very productive cattle operation and excellent hunting ranch. The word Piceance (PEE-ants) derives from the Shoshoni word meaning Tall Grass. The ranch consists of 5727 +/- deeded acres along with Bureau of Land Management grazing allotment and private oil shale grazing/hunting lease. In total, the ranch encompasses over 20,000 contiguous acres. Piceance Creek meanders through the property for over 4 miles and is an excellent fishery producing Cutthroat, Rainbow, and Brook trout. Along with the creek, numerous springs and wells supply water for tanks, ponds and reservoirs throughout the property and provide year round stock water. The elevation varies from 6600 ft to 8500 ft. Piceance Creek Ranch is both a sportsman's paradise as well as a high quality cattle ranch. Piceance Basin has been known for having large migratory Mule Deer and has produced many Boone & Crocket records over the years. Piceance Creek Ranch offers exceptional hunting opportunities for Deer, Elk, Bear, Mountain Lion, Bobcat, Coyote, Turkey and Blue Grouse, just to name a few.
The ranch has good improvements consisting of two homes, guest cabin, cow camp/hunting cabin, two shop buildings, barn, tack shed, calving facilities and numerous other outbuildings typical of a working ranch.
Water is supplied to the ranch headquarters by private spring. All main ranch buildings are insulated and heated by private gas wells on the ranch.
The location of the ranch is 30 miles NW of Rifle, Co. and 35 miles SW of Meeker, Co. Located in both Rio Blanco and Garfield counties.
